Peggy was long involved in public service, ranging from administrative work in the N.C. Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Senate (Senator Robert Morgan), the U.S. House of Representatives (Congressman Walter Jones, Sr.), and the N.C. Court of Appeals (Chief Judge Linda McGee). She was preceded in death by her parents, Duncan Archie Stewart and Sarah McPhail Stewart; and several brothers and sisters. Peggy is survived by her husband, Gerald Seifert; step-daughter, Rachel Anne Seifert of Versailles, KY and Amelia Island, FL; sister, Marie Jaggers; two brothers, Caviness Ray Stewart and James Garner Stewart and wife, Wyatt; sister-in-law, Helen Cox Stewart; and many many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington, NC. Funeral Services were held at Spring Hill UMC in Lillington with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Wife of Ray J. Smith. Claudia Nelle Roberts Smith, age 84 of Sanford, passed away at First Health Moore Regional Hospital. She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Euette Martin Roberts and Sarah Margaret Stewart Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray J. Smith. Her parents, brother Murk Roberts, Sister Dorothy Cummings, and great granddaughter Chloe Leslie. Claudia was a graduate of Boone Trail High School and attended Campbell College. She was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church and owned and operated restaurants in the Moore County area over the past thirty years. Surviving are her daughters Sharon Fields and husband Jimmy of Carthage, NC, Raynelle Allred of Carthage, NC, Darline Ratliff of Sanford, NC and Janet Smith of Sanford, NC. Sister Sandra Patterson and husband Ed of Broadway, NC. Brothers E.M. Roberts Jr. of Broadway, NC and Clyde Earl Roberts of Oriental, NC. Twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral Home in Broadway. Services were conducted at Spring Hill UMC in Lillington with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Wife of Jason Thomas Spitzer. Daughter of Mike Ray and Sheila Ray. Lisa Ray Spitzer, 46, cherished wife, mother, daughter, and friend, passed away into the arms of God. She was the beautiful and loving daughter of Mike and Sheila Ray, wife of Jay Spitzer, and mother of Jaylyn Spitzer. Lisa was a strong Christian, she believed in the God that created her. She was kind, sweet, loving, trustworthy, and gentle. A friend to all, anyone was welcome in her home. She always believed the best in everyone. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Sheila Ray, her husband, Jay, and several other close family members. Those that mourn her passing include her daughter, Jaylyn; sister, Marsha Ray Thomas; numerous aunts, uncles, and family members; and an entire community that loved her. Arrangements were handled by Adcock Funeral Home of Spring Lake, NC; service was held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Husband of Elsie Stewart. Clarence P. Stewart, 90 of Lillington died at his home. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late W.M. and Lizzie Wicker Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the European Theater and received the "Silver Star" and "Presidential Citation for Gallantry in Action". Upon returning from the war, he married Elsie Stewart and earned his BS degree in Agriculture from North Carolina State University. Mr. Stewart taught in the NC Public School System from 1955--1962. In 1962 he became Harnett County Executive Director for ASCS office and was later appointed State Executive Director and retired from that position in 1982. Following his retirement, he served four terms in the NC House of Representatives, representing Harnett, Lee, and Sampson Counties. Mr. Stewart was a farmer and a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church where he has served in numerous leadership positions including: Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board of Finance and Chairman of the Official Board. Mr. Stewart was a Charter Member of the Boone Trail Ruritan Club, a member of the Boone Trail Booster Club, Chairman of the Golden Leaf District Boy Scouts of America, and a 32nd Degree Mason with Harnett County Masonic Lodge #302 in Lillington. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie S. Stewart. Sons: Randall Stewart and wife Nancy of Rocky Mount; David Stewart and wife Sharon of Lillington. Brother: Edwin B. Stewart of Burlington. Sister: Joyce Johnson of Broadway. Six Grandchildren: Trey Stewart, Carmen Clipper, Natalie Cortez, Nicholas Stewart, Joshua Stewart, and Brian Stewart. Five Great grandchildren: Grady and Max Clipper, Hugo and Mia Cortez, Jayden Stewart. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, and services were held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

She was a member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was a retired educator from the Lee County Schools. Surviving is her son, Donald Stewart of Broadway, NC; daughters, Susan Stewart Rhodes of Lillington, NC and Sarah Stewart of Sanford, NC; Sister, Linda Holland of Lillington, NC and seven grandchildren. Services were held at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington, NC with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

      • Wife of Clarence P. Stewart. Elsie Stewart age 89 of Lillington died at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late A.H. and Myrtle Davis Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, C.P. Stewart. She was a graduate of Meredith College earning her BS degree in Education. She continued her studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she received her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling. Mrs. Stewart retired after more than 3 decades in public education, teaching English in the classroom and serving as a Guidance Counselor. Her career included service in Wake, Cumberland, and Harnett Counties. Mrs. Stewart was an active member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday School teacher. She assisted with MYF and Bible School as well as numerous other capacities within the church. Mrs. Stewart is survived by her sons, Randy Stewart and wife Nancy of Rocky Mount; David Stewart and wife Sharon of Lillington. Sisters: Hazel S. Adams of Myrtle Beach, SC; Margie S. Anderson of Cameron, WVA. Brother, Charles Stewart of Clawson, Michigan. Six Grandchildren: Trey Stewart, Carmen Clipper, Natalie Cortez, Nicholas Stewart, Josh Stewart, and Brian Stewart. 5 great grandchildren also survive. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Funeral Home. Services were held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Wife of John Kendall Stewart, Sr. Eugenia Faye Thomas Stewart, 80, of Broadway, passed away at FirstHealth Hospice House in West End. She was born in Lee County to the late Lewis and Stella O'Quinn Thomas. Faye was the proprietor of Stewart's Grocery for over 25 years. She and her husband, Kendall, were lifelong farmers. She taught Sunday school at Spring Hill UMC for 45 years, primarily 4th and 5th graders. Faye and Kendall raised money for the Boone Trail Ruritan Club with their hamburger and hot dog booth at the Boone Trail Fair for many years. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Kendall Stewart. She is survived by her three children, Audrey Stewart, of Sanford, Michelle Bridges (Jay) of Sanford, and John Kendall Stewart Jr. of the home; one grandchild, Autumn Bridges (fianc‚e, Alex McLester) of Raleigh; five siblings, Barbara Norris of Broadway, Tillman Thomas of Edenton, Johnnie Thomas (Vivian) of Hickory, Glenda Black (Charles) of Lillington and Troy Thomas of Broadway; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington, NC. Services were held at Spring Hill UMC in Lillington, NC with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Wife of James Britton Stewart. It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Fannie Mimms Stewart, 92, of Wilmington, NC. She died peacefully at Bradley Creek Health Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Broadway, NC to the late Pearl and Sion Mimms. Fannie attended Elon University and worked in accounting prior to starting a family. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain James Britton Stewart of the North Carolina Highway Patrol and daughter, Teresa Stewart Snyder. Surviving are her son, James (Jimmy) Stewart, Jr. (Mary Jo) and daughter, Brenda Stewart Garrison (Frank) all of Wilmington, NC and daughter, Barbara Stewart Stephens (Mark) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Martha-Ann Maddox and grandchildren, Ashley Snyder, Matthew Snyder, Joshua Snyder, Katherine Stephens, Isabella Garrison, Marie Metcalf and Joseph Metcalf. Fannie was a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC for over 50 years. For those that were fortunate to know her loved her beautiful smile, appreciated her spunky attitude and looked forward to watching her dance to her favorite songs. Other hobbies included gardening and investing in real estate and the stock market as well as teaching her grandchildren to prepare vegetables produced from her garden. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in them strong values that have served them well. She also enjoyed spending time at her beach cottage at Topsail Island and at the Grand Cayman Islands where she hosted a family vacation for 18 years. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home of Lillington, NC. A private graveside service was held at Spring Hill UMC in Lillington, NC.

      • Mr. John Kendall "Big John" Stewart, Jr., 49, died peacefully at First Health Palliative and Hospice House. He grew up on the Stewart Farm with his parents, Kendall and Faye Stewart who preceded him in death. John was an avid hunter and there was nothing he liked better than being in the woods with his dogs, especially "John Henry" and his hunting friends. He was a member of several hunting clubs including Cedar Creek Hunt Club. John is survived by his sisters, Audrey Stewart of Carthage and Michelle Bridges (Jay) of Sanford; also his beloved niece, Autumn Bridges (Alex McLester) of Raleigh; surviving him also are his aunts and uncles, Barbara Norris of Broadway, Tillman Thomas of Edenton, Johnnie Thomas (Vivian) of Hickory, Glenda Black (Charles) of Mamers and Troy Thomas of Broadway; also surviving are many cousins. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington, NC. Services were held at Spring Hill UMC with burial in the church cemetery.

      • Husband of Eugenia Faye Thomas Stewart. John Kendall Stewart, Sr., 85, of Broadway died at Emerald Health and Rehab in Lillington, North Carolina. He was the son of the late James Kendall Stewart and Mary Lou McPhail Stewart. He was preceded in death by his brothers James Britton Stewart and Charles Elton Stewart and by his sisters Margaret S. Roberts, Josie Stewart, Ethel Stewart, Christine S. Olson, Nettie S. Dean, Carrie S. Jones, and Annie Bell S. Maynard. Kendall was a retired farmer and a lifetime member of Spring Hill Methodist Church. Kendall was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the FSA committee for 44 years, and the BB&T Board of Directors for 19 years. He also served on the Boone Trail Advisory Board, Harnett County Historical Society, the Boone Trail Emergency Services Board, and he was a member of the Boone Trail Ruritan Club. Kendall is survived by his wife, Faye Thomas Stewart of the home; daughters Audrey Stewart of Sanford, Michelle S. Bridges (Jay) of Sanford, son John Kendall Stewart Jr. of the home and granddaughter Autumn Bridges of Raleigh. Arrangements were handled by O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home & Crematory. Services were held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 1960 Spring Hill Ch. Rd., Lillington, NC with burial in the church cemetery.
