Wife of Joseph Del Vecchio. Gina Rivera Del Vecchio, 73, of Sanford passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by family and friends. Gina was born in Westchester County, NY to the late Lucy and Generoso Rivera. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Joseph Del Vecchio, her brother Tony Rivera, her sister Esther Falco and her nephews Christopher Falco and Vincent Falco. After many years as a devoted wife and mother, Gina courageously returned to school, earning degrees from Sandhills Community College and later North Carolina State University in May 2000. Upon graduation Gina worked as a social worker, including a position at the Hillcrest Shelter in Sanford, allowing her to continue her lifetime pursuit of helping people, though this time in a professional capacity. She later transitioned her career to educational counseling, reflecting the importance Gina placed on higher learning, working for Central Carolina Community College as a placement counselor. Gina was a faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Sanford and a member of the Ladies Guild. She volunteered at the Temple Theater and was a substitute teacher for the Lee County School System. Gina was above all a warm and giving person; her infectious smile lit up every room she ever entered. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Gina is survived by her son Joseph Del Vecchio and wife Brenda of Sanford; her daughter Dawn Chasse and husband Eric of Apex, NC; four grandsons, Dayne Del Vecchio, Asher Del Vecchio, Ryan Chasse, and Cooper Chasse; two brothers, Carmen Rivera and Johnny Rivera; her sister Carol Womack; her sister-in-law Marie Del Vecchio and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews, all of whom meant the world to her. A memorial mass was held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Sanford. Internment followed the mass at Lee Memory Gardens. Arrangements were handled by Miller Boles Funeral Home of Sanford, NC.

Husband of Ava Dalrymple Diaz. Joey Lee Diaz, age 66, of Broadway, NC, passed away at his home surrounded by his family. Joey was born in Lee County to the late Lena Mae Butler Diaz. In addition to his mother, Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vester Lee Butler, Sr. and Omie Holder Butler; brother, Tony Gregory Haire. He worked many years in sales for contractor supplies. He is survived by his loving wife, Ava Dalrymple Diaz; son, Joey Lee Diaz, II of Broadway; sister, Michelle Diaz Holland and husband, Andrew of Fuquay-Varina; mother-in-law, Margie Dalrymple of Broadway; special uncle, John Pat "JP" Butler of Broadway; two nieces, Erin and Alison of Fuquay-Varina and a very special family friend, Jeremy Johnson (Bubba) of Sanford. Arrangements were handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at Lee Memory Gardens.
