Husband of Jan Daughtry. Mr. Douglas Whitfield Daughtry, 75, of Dunn died Sunday at Betsy Johnson Hospital. He was born in Wayne County to the late William Edgar and Elma Lancaster Daughtry. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty C. May. Doug was a 1960 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965; he was a member of the National Honor Guard in 1962 and was stationed in Germany from 1963 to 1965. He received a BS degree from UNC Wilmington in 1971. Doug worked with for CP&L for almost 30 years, retiring in 1997 as a marketing director. He also worked as a tax appraiser for Harnett County from 1998 until 2011. Doug was a 32rd degree Mason; he was a member of the Neil Stewart Lodge #556 in Erwin, and a member of the Wilmington Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Sudan Temple in New Bern, and the Dunn Shrine Club, where he was a Past President. He was Co-Chairman of the Crippled Children's Committee from 1987 to 1999, a member of the Dunn Flag Unit and a member of the Order of Jesters. He was a past president of Dunn Lions Club, a member of the American Legion Post 59, where he was a past commander and part of the 40/8 in 1977 and Chef De Gare in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jan Daughtry, two sons, Kevin Daughtry and wife Mary Beth of Raleigh, Larry Daughtry and wife Parrish of Dunn, a brother, Roger Daughtry of Goldsboro, five grandchildren; Colin and Cade Daughtry, Carter, Reece and Kole Daughtry. Arrangements were handled by Skinner and Smith Funeral Home of Dunn, with services held at the funeral home and burial at Erwin Memorial Park in Erwin, NC.
