This cemetery has been used as a family burying ground since about 1765 and is near the site of William Johnson's fort. Johnson died in 1765 and is buried nearby. A memorial to him is found in the survey area. Most of the stones are limestone and are eroding badly, even though well-cared for. Many graves are unmarked. The cemetery is adjacent to Mount Pleasant Methodist Church built in 1809 and used until 1929. William Reynolds purchased the property in 1921 and the building was used as a granary until Reynolds donated his farm to Forsyth County for a park in 1951. It is now restored and located adjacent to the Tanglewood Golf Clubhouse.
The original census is taken from 3 sources. 1. A family history book "William Johnson 1732-1765 and Some Descendants" written by William J. Hall in 1943, 2. Mt Pleasant Methodist Church records from a 1984 copy. Submitters: Frank Swicegood and Marie Hinson [30 October 1984] 3. Pictures taken by Lyn Blackburn-Fowler in the cemetery in 1995.
Original survey submitted by Linda Fowler (date unknown). The site was surveyed in 1975 and results reported in Stanley, Donald W., et al. 1975. "Forsyth County NC Cemetery Records" Vol II, pp258-261. It was surveyed again and photographed by Thomas McLain and Robin Richards for Forsyth County Genealogical Society in September 2016.
