      Location - in center of Harkers Island off Vergie Mae Rd.

      Located in the center of Harkers Island about 2 miles west of the bridge and on the east side of Vergie Mae Road, about 200 yards behind the United Methodist Church. The church is located on Harkers Island Road (SR 1335) at the intersection of Cape Lookout Road, about 0.1 mi west of Old Ferry Dock Road.

      The cemetery is named for Vergie Mae Nelson, daughter of Thomas Nelson, granddaughter of Levi Hancock, and dates to about 1890. As an infant, she was the first to be buried in the cemetery, her body having been brought over from Shackleford Banks.
