278    RILEY - WARD FAMILY GRAVEYARD

Location - off Lebanon Rd, near Efland in Cheeks Township.

Directions: from Hwy 70 in Efland, head north on Brookhollow (SR-0324). Go 1.4 miles north to Lebanon Rd (SR-1306). Go 0.5 mile down Labanon and turn left in the driveway.

Property owned by Viola Whitehart Williams. Of Efland. This is a private family owned cemetery. It is maintained. It is about one acre in size and has about 30-40 graves. It is a white cemetery as stated in deed Book 25 page 206 at the Orange County Register of Deeds office. Located by Orange County PIN # 9855570135 on the property of Mr. Douglas Keith Efland.

Access is restricted since it is on private property a short way in the woods behind a rental house.

Several old markers are not standing and have fallen over. The cemetery is periodically mowed by Mr. J.W. Whitehart of Rt #1, Box 265, Efland NC.

Markers are just plain field stones. Earliest burial is probably late 1700s. Last known burial is 1911. One grave is fully covered with one large piece of flat river rock. It is said to be the grave of Copeland Riley who died 15 April 1881. The cemetery may be in danger from the possibility that a reservoir could be built on th Eno River near this graveyard.
