261 WHITTED, WILLIAM, SR. FAMILY CEMETERY (BEF. 1816)
Location - North of Hillsborough east of Hwy 86 North near the line between Hillsborough Township and Cedar Grove Township, but unlocated. Private property.
Comment [1996] - The location is shown in a 1970s diagram to be east off Hwy 86 North, about 3 miles north of the Hwy 86-Bypass 70 intersection in northern Hillsborough. Go up a hill on Hwy 86, past a concrete block store on the right [in 1996 enlarged by a wooden structure but apparently abandoned, with a one-story apartment building off to the rear], and with Jones Grove Baptist Church sitting back off to the left of the highway. 'Charlie Torain's' house [in the 1970s] stood on the right, [whether or not you go as far as Coleman Loop Road (SR #1334) was not shown]; you were to turn right just past his house on an old road and drive east for some undetermined distance. The cemetery is not shown on the chart, suggesting it was not located.
There are no burials listed for this cemetery. The folder did contain information on the William Whitted family. This would be the cemetery of the William Whitted who died in 1816. [See cemetery #214 for his son William Whitted, Jr and family]. It is not clear that the cemetery still existed or was surveyed.
- Whitted, William (b. - d. )
The William Whitted Home Was Apparently Located On Old Hwy 86 In the Vicinity of Hillsborough, And There Was A Family Cemetery there. [1996 Comment]
