Survey - This cemetery was surveyed on November 4, 1974.
Graves - There were 2 marked graves, and indications of possibly 3 other graves. One deep oval depression seems very likely to be a grave. [See the plat here]
Comments - The church was organized 30 Oct 1938. In Dec 1944 Matthew and Julia Nunn donated 2.36 acres for construction of a church, to be known as the First Baptist Church of the New Hope Association. In May 1945 the name was changed to Nunn Chapel of the New Hope Association [see O. C. DB 120:203; 122:167; 122:172]. The building was apparently erected in 1946. It burned sometime before 1967, when Matthew Nunn reclaimed the land from the church in accordance with the terms of the deed and sold it to Susie Hackney Weaver [O. C. DB 211:837, 20 Jun 1967]. The foundation and the large concrete front steps remain [see church steps]. The graves are about 120 ft to the rear of the NW corner of the foundation on the east side of a huge boulder. Rev. Nunn apparently selected this picturesque site for his wife's grave in 1956, and was later buried beside her following his accidental death at age 79. Rev. Nunn's grave is surrounded by a concrete coping, but if there was a top it is not evident.
