This cemetery has eight legible markers on the approximately nine identifiable graves enclosed by a large iron fence. Canvassed by Dwight A. Evans (1981). Duane Carpenter served as a guard at the Confederate Prison in Salisbury, NC, during the Civil War. Hw was the father of James E., John W., and Willis T. Carpenter, owners and operators of Carpenter Brothers groceries and supplies store from 1903 to 1919 when they became Carpenter Motor Company. Willis left the grocery business in 1905 to work for the Durham post office; he later became assistant postmaster.
