This abandoned cemetery has about 10 graves. Canvassed by Jean B. Anderson and Michael Hill (1983). Willie Person Mangum represented North Carolina in the U.S. Senate for 18 years and was Senate President from 1842 to 1845. Research indicates the grave of his only son, William Preston Mangum, who was a 2nd Lt. in the Civil War and was buried here in July 1861, was unearthed by vandals in order to remove his uniform. The desecration was discovered and the remains reburied in 1984.
