      Location - Oakland Township. 1,500 feet east of end of SR 1959, Rocky River Road, in White Pines Natural Area.

      Although the cemetery was not found, an area covered with periwinkle is located at a site reported in 1991. Photographs by Beverly Wiggins in May 2015.

      Owner: Triangle Land Conservancy.
      Legal description: Parcel 18572; Deed 503/925, 1986 Charles P. Dorr to Triangle Land Conservancy, 40.5 acres. 399/614, 30 Nov 1976, rev 3 Dec 1976. Richard Hamilton Ward and Victoria Beverly Ward to Charles P. Dorr; Tracts 1 and 2, 40.5 acres. Plat book 20-35 (does not show cemetery). According to an interview with Ethel Lee Harris, her father, Philip Lee once owned this land. The parcel with the cemetery is believed to be one that Philip Lee purchased from OJ and John T. Gunter in 1905 and 1906, (deeds EB/234 and EB/325). Both describe the land as the lot drawn by Mary Ann Sloan in the division of the property of Alexander Sloan. That division is described and a plat shown in BG/75, Feb 1883.

      Cemetery size: 20x15'.
      Approximate number graves: 6.
      Type: Other, said to be slave cemetery, but source of that information unknown.
      Restricted access: No.
      Overgrown and easily identifiable: Yes.
      Enclosed: No.
      Markers: Yes. Four markers in one row and two in another.
      Markers with inscriptions: No.
      Number of readable markers: 0.
      Markers damaged: No.
      Listed: Yes. Gravesites of Chatham County.

      Miscellaneous information: William Heiser located an area covered in periwinkle in 1991 but saw no markers. Jim and Bev Wiggins were shown to this site on 24 May 2015 by JC and Sharon Garbutt. No periwinkle was evident in 2015. An old house site is across the walking trail on the right a short distance up the trail. Four graves are marked by fieldstones at head and foot, another with headstone only. There is an additional sunken area indicating an unmarked grave. No markings were found on any of the grave markers. According to an interview with Ethel Lee Harris, her father, Philip Lee once owned this land.
