050 GIBBS FAMILY (Sycamore Drive)
Location - in wooded area off Sycamore Drive.
Directions: From US 70, proceed about 0.3 mile northeast from the intersection with NC 101, turn right (east) onto Steep Point Road (SR 1307), and immediately turn right (south) again after 300-400 feet onto Sycamore Drive.
When surveyed, the cemetery was located in a wooded area behind the back yard of the 4th house on the left (east) side of the street. Surveyed by Bill and Irene Underwood of New Bern in May 2006. Previous survey provided by Jackie B. Hubbard in September 1994.
Note: In addition to the listed graves, the cemetery included two unmarked wooden crosses indicating burial sites, two small rocks also indicating burial sites, and one adult grave with head and foot stonesand an unmarked rounded concrete slab, also unmarked. According to Ms. Hubbard, this cemetery contains slaves who belonged to Winfield Davis, who is supposedly buried with his family in the Gibbs Family Cemetery on Gibbs Lane.
