Located next to the Ann Street United Methodist Church, 417 Ann Street, in the block south of the court house. The cemetery dates back to the original Anglican Church in St. John's Parish, which was organized in 1724, and was deeded to the town in 1731 by Nathaniel Taylor.
It is maintained under the joint custodial care of the Beaufort Historical Association and the Town of Beaufort. The cemetery is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, which is rare for a cemetery. The gates are open during daylight hours and self-guided tours are offered.
Cemetery contains over 500 graves. According to the Beaufort Historical Society, the oldest legible grave marker is dated 1765 and it is likely that some of the illegible markers are even older. However, the oldest date of death listed here is 1773. More than 200 of the graves date from before the Civil War. Some comments and birth dates were provided by the editor.
