      Location - From the intersection of the Cary Pkwy. & Hwy. #54 (Chapel Hill Rd.), Cary, NC.: Take Hwy. #54 west 2.6 miles to Airport Blvd. (SR # 3015) which runs only northwest. Go 1.2 miles to the cemetery, clearly visible on the left (nw) side of the road. (Airport Blvd. continues and crosses Interstate #40 at Exit # 284 less than a mile ahead.)

      Surveyed by Shirley Olson in September 7, 2003,

      Airport Road Community Cemetery (formerly called Sorrell's Grove Cemetery, listed as Sorrel's Grove in GNIS), Morrisville, Cedar Fork Twp., Wake County, NC.

      Wake Co. land records show 1.12 acres, currently owned by James W. Marcom. Property description is "Property of Sorrell Grove Baptist Church Cemetery."

      You can drive through the cemetery. It is neatly mowed and well kept. There are an unusually large number of footstone size markers, mostly without dates, some with full names, some with partial names. I thought at first they were place holders until I viewed a number of these stones with "baby" and the surname, and can only surmise that these are being used instead of headstones as grave markers. At the foot of the graves that are marked with headstones there are the customary footstones, either initialed or with "mother" or "father" inscribed. At one grave there was a funeral home marker and next to it a footstone sized tablet with the name of the interred. Only the funeral home marker held dates. Since burials have occurred as recently as 2002, the cemetery is still in use and there appears to be room for more burials.
