489    KEY FAMILY (Sandy Creek Lane)

Location - Sandy Creek Lane, Pilot.

Directions: From intersection of Highways 52 and 268 in Pilot Mountain take Highway 268 West for approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right onto Sandy Creek Ln (gravel and dirt road). Travel about 0.5 miles and the cemetery is in a grove of trees on a hill in a pasture on the left of the road, just beyond the driveway to the owner's home. Nothing visible from the road to indicate the presence of the graves & stones among the trees.

Located based on a hint provided by Kathy Blanchard. Her father had shared memories with her about what was once a large cemetery. Over the years it had been damaged by the ongoing farming operation on the site. Asked for permission to enter field since it is a working farm.

Age 74 yrs 5 mos 14 days. Husband of Melinda Fulk Key. Son of Lewis A. Key and Elizabeth T. Jones. Foot marker.
3. Key, John H.   (b. 10 Aug 1870 - d. 8 Nov 1898)
Age 28 yrs 2 mos 28 days. Husband of Martha Frances Bryant Key. Married 12 Apr 1896 Surry County. Son of John Achilles Key and Malinda Fulk Key. "To whom we trust a place in given among the saints with Christ in heaven" (head stone broken in two - initials on foot stone). Bottom of marker. - Foot marker.
4. Key, Luther M.   (b. 27 Feb 1897 - d. 8 Jan 1899)
Age 1 yr 10 mos 9 days. Son of John H. Key and Martha Frances Bryant Key. "Suffer little children to come to me". Foot marker.
5. Key, Malinda Fulk   (b. Aug 1838 - d. Bet 1900-1910)
Wife of John Achilles Key. (probably buried here with her husband).
6. Key, Martha Frances Bryant   (b. 14 Feb 1873 - d. 21 Oct 1920)
Age 47 yrs 8 mos 17 days. Wife of John H. Key. Married 12 Apr 1896 Surry County. "We trust our loss will be her gain and that with Christ she's gone to reign" (head stone broken into 2 sections - initials on foot stone). Bottom of marker. - Foot marker.
7. Unknown, Unknown   (b. Unknown - d. Unknown)
A white head stone (about 8 inches square) and matching foot stone (looks like marble) neither had any visible markings.
