He was born in Ozark, Alabama, son of the late Daniel Elbert Arnette Sr. and Della Taylor Arnette. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twelve brothers and sisters and his wife Virginia S. Arnette. He was retired from Stevens Milling Company after 47 years of service and was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church for 70 years. Surviving are his daughter Virginia Dale Arnette of Fayetteville, NC; Sons Pat Arnette and wife Margaret of Sanford, NC and Mike Arnette and wife Judy of Raleigh, NC; Special daughters, Ann J. Savage and Rita Finner both of Fayetteville, NC; Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. Service was held at Broadway Methodist Church and burial at Broadway Town Cemetery.

      • Jerry Blalock, age 72, of Broadway, NC, died at Central Carolina Hospital. He was born in Lee County, NC to the late Joseph Victor Blalock and Margaret McDuffie Blalock. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Larry Joe Blalock, Sr. Jerry was a long-haul truck driver for many years. Before retirement Jerry worked for Cooper Mechanical. He was a devoted son, proud dad and grandfather and never met a stranger. According to sources, Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Boone Trail High School in Mamers, NC. He is survived by his sons Billy Blalock and wife Rachelle of Lillington, Wayne Blalock and wife Zasette of Broadway; mother of his children Bonnie Vought; brother Jack and wife Debbie of Broadway; grandchildren Stephanie, Christopher, Hannah, Marc, Edward, Danielle, David, Emily and great-grandchildren Cloud, Liam and Liliana. Arrangements were handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home fo Sanford NC. The funeral was held in the funeral home chapel with burial at Broadway Town Cemetery.

Services were held at Broadway Presbyterian Church with burial in the Broadway Town Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

He was born in Lee County son of the late James Andrew McNeill and Alice Victoria Kelly McNeill. He was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Mariel Griffin McNeill; parents and siblings, Henry Clyde McNeill, G. Lemon McNeill, J. Carlos McNeill, Addie M. Allegood, J. Clayborne McNeill, Verlie M. Groce, Nannie M. Davenport, Beulah McNeill, Quinton McNeill and Winelle M. Harrington. Bernie Warren was a graduate of Broadway High School and the Winston Salem Barber College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 525 in Fayetteville. He was a barber at Mac's Barber Shop in Broadway from 1949-1960 and co-owner of Mac's Barber and Beauty Supply in Fayetteville from 1960-1985 and was a member of Faith Wesleyan Church in Fayetteville. Surviving is his son Barry Steven McNeill and wife, Anne Christy-McNeill of Fuquay - Varina, NC. Grandson Thomas "Toby" Andrew McNeill and wife Becky of Corning NY. Granddaughter Kelly Cawthon McNeill and partner Paul Starr of Rochester, NY and great granddaughters Cora and Kassidy McNeill. Arrangements were handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. Services were held at Broadway United Methodist Church with burial with full military rites at Broadway Town Cemetery.

She was born in Columbus County, NC to the late Frank Odom and Idella Piner Odom. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Clifton Harvey "CH" Parker and siblings George Robert Odom, Henry Odom, Maggie Gangloff, Johnny Odom, Tom Odom, and Mary Murray. Mrs. Parker, above everything else, loved God and her family. She served faithfully in all areas of ministry and raised her 7 children to be Godfearing and they all serve in the ministry community. Mrs. Parker was known for her homemade biscuits. She was a prayer warrior and thanked her Savior for never having to bury any of her children. Due to her faith, she was looking forward to arriving in heaven to see her parents, husband, and all the others that went before her. She is survived by children Marion Clifton Parker of West Virginia, Charles Thomas Parker and wife Sandra of Raleigh, NC, Kenneth Harold Parker and wife Anne of Sanford, NC, Rebecca Parker Daurity of Rolesville, NC, Danny Stephen Parker and wife Sue of Sanford, NC, Marcus Andrew Parker of Broadway, NC and Ivan Ray Parker and wife Teresa of Mt.       • Husband of Dorothy Conklin Pittman and Iris Pendergrass Pittman. Mr. Maurice "Ross" Pittman, beloved husband, father, uncle and friend passed away to be with his savior, Jesus Christ. Ross was born to the late James Ira Pittman and Sallie Anne Kelly Pittman. He grew up on the family farm in Harnett County. He moved to Sanford at the age of 20 and began his career at Kammer's Men's Store. He would later become the store's proprietor. In Sanford, Ross met Dorothy Conklin, and they were married on February 4, 1947 at the First Baptist Church of Sanford. They joined the church soon after their marriage. Their son, Mark was born on March 6, 1957. Ross was well known and respected in the Sanford area. As the long-time proprietor of Kammer's Men's Store, he was the clothier of many of the area's best-dressed men! Ross was a dedicated Christian and served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and choir member at the First Baptist Church of Sanford. Ross had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. He loved to read all kinds of books including the Bible, history, historical fiction, mysteries and best-selling novels. Ross retired at age 66. During his early retirement years, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, and tending his apple trees and grape vines on the old family farm. He and Dot loved canning and freezing fresh produce and making jellies and preserves. They loved sharing their bounty with friends, family and those in need. They also enjoyed a trip to the beach every summer. After Dot's death in December 2005, Ross spent several years alone. On June 9, 2012, he married Iris Pendergrass, with whom he spent six wonderful years. Ross and Iris enjoyed working in their yard, preparing good food, and simply being together. They took care of and nurtured each other. Ross is pre-deceased by his parents; his wife, Dot; his three brothers, Leslie, Guy and Jim Pittman; and his sister, Loyce Pittman Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Iris; his son, Mark; and his special nieces, Miriam Pittman Ring, Martha Pittman Hales, and Janet Pittman Shew; and step son James Kelso Pendergrass Jr, wife Lisa and their sons Blake and Connor. Arrangements were handled by Rogers Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford, NC. Services were held at First Baptist Church in Sanford, with burial at Broadway Town Cemetery in Lee County.

      • Mr. Dennis Sterling Walls, 69, of Aiken, SC, formerly of Harnett County, passed away due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Frank Lee Walls and Evelyn Parker Walls. Sterling was a 1965 graduate of Boone Trail High School where he played football, baseball and basketball.
        He was a member of the historic Boone Trail starting five that played the longest championship basketball game on February 29 and March 1,1964, which had 13 overtimes. Sterling received a basketball scholarship to Atlantic Christian College where he played. He served in the National Guard for four years. Sterling worked in the cemetery industry for over 25 years. He was presently Vice President and partner with Associated Cemetery Consultants in Danville, VA.
        Sterling is survived by his wife of 22 years, Angela Lee Walls of the home; son, Sterling Chance Walls and wife Dana of Decatur, GA; daughter, Misti Rae Walls of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Lily Walls of Decatur, GA and grandson, Scout Walls of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Danette Walls Foster and husband L.E. of Broadway, NC; brother, Don Walls and wife Carolyn of Wilmington, NC; nephew, Garrett Foster of Broadway, NC.
        Funeral was conducted by O'Quinn Peebles Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington and burial at Broadway Town Cemetery.

      • Age 75 years. Wife of Frank Lee Walls. Evelyn Parker Walls of Broadway died Saturday, Aug.29, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. The Harnett County native was a master's degree graduate from Campbell University and was employed with the Harnett County schools as a teacher until her retirement in 1992. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frank Lee Walls. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Sterling Walls of Fayetteville and Don L. Walls of Broadway; one daughter, Danette Walls Foster of Sanford; two sisters, Gertrude Parker Johnson of Lillington and Inez Parker Weaver of Raleigh; and six grandchildren. A service of O'Quinn, Peebles, Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington. Service held at Antioch Baptist Church and burial at Broadway Town Cemetery.

      • Wife of Zeb Olaman Whitford. Mildred Cameron Whitford, age 86, passed away at the First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst. She was born in Harnett County, daughter of the late Archie Cameron and Eva Mae Moore Cameron. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Z.O. Whitford, whom she married in 1956. Mildred was a graduate of Broadway High School, Class of 1952 and a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College. She was a member of the Broadway Presbyterian Church, volunteered at the Lee County Enrichment Center, was an educator and worked for many years with her parents at Cameron's Grocery in Broadway until it closed in 1977. Surviving are her daughters, Bonnie Boggs and husband Carl of Sanford, NC, Julie Harbour and husband Scott of Holly Springs, NC and Robin Johnson and husband Timmy of Broadway, NC. Sister, Gwen Ellen Belk and husband Jerry of Hickory, NC, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by the Smith Funeral Home of Broadway. Graveside services were conducted at Broadway Town Cemetery in Broadway, NC.
