      Coordinates: 35d 03m 45.4s N; 78d 54m 50.4s W Click here for Google maps

The cemetery is in a fenced-off area behind the Terry Sanford High School athletic fields. Visitors should apply at the school office for permission to visit the site.

Surveyed and photographed by Paul F. Wilson.
Another view of the cemetery. The cemetery gate posts. Picture of the Confederate Womens Home as it once stood. Memorial stone in the cemetery. State Historical Marker on the roadway.

Proposed in 1908 by the North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy as a home for the widows and daughters of Confederate veterans, the home was chartered in 1913 by the state legislature and opened in 1915. The home was closed in 1981 and demolished shortly afterwards; the chapel remained standing a little longer but was finally demolished in the late 1980s to make room for parking for Terry Sanford High School.

(Very few of the markers have birth dates; the birth dates that are posted here were obtained from NC Death Certificates on file in the Register of Deeds office in the Cumberland County Courthouse.)
