On 5 January 1813, Elijah Fooshee deeded approximately 1 acre of land to Robert Ward, Blake Brantley, Thomas Massey, and George Dismukes, "Trustees of the Baptist Church commonly called the Old Fork Meeting House" [Deed Book T-80]. On 6 December 1822, in a deed for 221 acres from Elijah Fooshee and Anny Fooshee, his wife, to Robert Ward, reference is made to "reserving one acre for Rock Spring Meetinghouse. [Deed Book Y-189.] On 9 April 1894, Calvin Crutchfield deeded a parcel of land 60 feet by 126 feet (0.17 acre) to Mark Smith, J. M. Dismukes, Robert Riddle, Ransom Dismukes, and Richard Riddle, "Trustees of Rock Spring Church". "for the purpose of a burying ground for the white race only" [Deed Book CR-430]. On 7 June 1894, Rom S. Eubanks and wife Annie C. Eubanks deeded to Mark Smith, J. M. Dismukes, Ransom Dismukes, Robert Riddle, and Richard Riddle, "Trustees of Rock Spring Baptist Church," approximately 1.81 acres of land "whereon said Rock Spring Church now stands," . "so long as a Baptist congregation shall worship in said church," [Deed Book CR-140]. The church and cemetery is currently under the protection of New Salem Baptist Church.

No church records exist prior to 1818, although Pascal says the church was constituted the last Saturday in October, 1764, with members coming from Deep River Church, which was dissolved. The first building was of logs. The second structure, dedicated in 1830, was some miles from the original site. Basil Manly (later president of the University of Alabama) was minister here in 1818. [Reference: Chatham County, 1771-1971, page 240.]

On 2 March 1995, Will M. and Audrey O. Heiser recorded 52 grave markers and noted 34 graves with field stones and/or illegible funeral home markers. Two burials here were noted in the records of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church by Martha Hope Smith.
