      Report of an abandoned cemetery in a remote location was not followed up by CCHA in the 1990s. The site was visited and documented on 7 Mar 2020 by Francis DiNardo, who had first visited the site in 2001 with the owner of the land at that time.

      Number of graves: at least 8, probably more.
      Cemetery size: 25' x 25' walled area. Plat shows cemetery size as approximately 40x 100'.
      White: Yes.
      Unrestricted access: No. Private Property.
      Overgrown and easy to identify: Yes.
      Enclosed: Yes.
      Enclosed explanation: Stone wall topped with hand-made brick. Wall is toppled and overgrown.
      Markers: Yes.
      Markers with inscriptions: Yes.
      Number of readable markers: 5.
      Last burial: 1907.
      First burial: 17??.
      Unusual stones: Very old inscribed fieldstone.
      Listed: Yes
      Listed explanation: Listed in Gravesites of Chatham County NC as not visited.

      Historical info: Hugh Peoples came from England (or possibly Ireland) to Pennsylvania and then settled in Chatham County on the west side of the Rocky River prior to 1780. He acquired large land holdings in Hickory Mountain Township and owned many slaves. His home, Bellvue, overlooked the Rock River about six miles from Pittsboro. Info from Chatham County, NC 1771-1971. The Hugh W. Peoples buried here would be the son of John Peoples and grandson of Hugh.
