135    HODGES CEMETERY (Chigger Ridge Road)

Location - on Chigger Ridge Road, which is a dirt road that curves off of Seamster Road, northwest of Yanceyville. Cemetery is on a private farm owned by John Lawson.

      Coordinates: 36d 29m 49.0s N; 79d 24m 48.0s W Click here for Google maps

Surveyed by J. Burch Blaylock on 28 December 1957 and resurveyed by Dottie Pickett and her husband in September 2002.

There are five marked graves and about six sunken graves with no markings.

Directions to cemetery: Drive west off State Highway 86 [the main road from Danville to Yanceyville] onto SHADY GROVE RD. and then to SEAMSTER ROAD, then left on SEAMSTER ROAD for 1.5 miles to CHIGGER RIDGE and on CHIGGER RIDGE for two tenths of a mile. Chigger Ridge Road curves off Seamster Road and is just a little dirt road, more like a driveway than a road. If one stopped their car two tenths of a mile from Seamster Road and looked 90 degrees to the right from the heading of the car, you will see a wooded area about 200 yards from Chigger Ridge Road. In Sept. 2002 there was a shed at the edge of the woods and the graves were about 200 yards into the woods and a little to the left in a partial clearing. The Lawson's, who own the property, live in the house to your right as you are walking towards the shed and woods. (Directions courtesy of Howard Hodges from Alexandria, Virginia)
