The first person buried in the cemetery was a slave. The Morton family between 1820 and 1846 buried him. The second person buried was William Peterson in 1848. There are a number of Confederate soldiers and veterans laid to rest there.

In the early 1930's the county buried the people who did not have any money. During the Great Depression of the '30's the county furnished a pine box and W.P. Cook furnished the truck to carry the deceased to the cemetery and the neighbors buried them There would be 25 to 30 people to the graves with shovels and pick axes. The service is now provided by funeral homes.

There are some interesting facts about the people buried there. A number of doctors are there, but no ministers. One person was killed by lightning and two people were burned to death. Two people were buried on the same day, Nita Swann and Pearl Richmond.

There are many graves for Stephen's, Websters, Briggs and Fuqua(y)s. Earlier years there was a day set up to clean and mow the church and cemetery grounds. Now the cemetery is maintained frequently. Tombstones and headstones have been aligned to give ease to mowing. Also some graves were not marked but they now have markers on all graves.
