144    SIMPSON FAMILY & COMMUNITY CEMETERY

Location - on Lewis Road about 2.5 miles north of the US 70.

      Coordinates: 34d 44m 49.9s N; 76d 37m 34.2s W Click here for Online Maps

Directions: From the US 70/NC 101 intersection proceed north on US 70 about 2.1 miles to Olga Road (SR 1429) in Oakwood Acres. Turn right onto Olga Road, then right after about 0.1 mile onto Lewis Road. The cemetery is on the right-hand side of the road about 0.2 mile from the intersection with Olga Road.

In 2005, it was between two houses. It appears by the size of this Cemetery and the number of indentions in the ground, that there are as many graves that are not marked as marked.

Note: There is little doubt that some graves have been destroyed due to development. Many of the graves likely had cedar wood markers that have decayed over time. It is said that storm water from the nearby creek have at times covered much of the cemetery with a foot of water.

Surveyed by George F. Lewis, Jr. of Morehead City in December 2005.
