      Survey provided by Martha McBane, Recording Clerk, Chatham Friends Meeting in September 2006. The list was up to date as of that time. Additional updates provided through October 2008.

      Chatham Friends Meeting traces its earliest beginnings to 1824. Some Quakers attending the `parent' Meeting expressed a desire to gather for worship in their immediate neighborhood. The first Meeting House was a log structure. The first record of a Sunday School goes back to 1835.

      The present Meeting site, donated in 1888, was first home to a 24' by 30' one room frame structure. This Meeting worshipped and conducted business under the watch and care of Spring Friends until 1909. Then the Meeting began its journey as a fully recognized Friends Meeting. The first pastor was a woman, Ada Lee (Stanley).

      In 1979, Chatham Friends Meeting began worshipping in a modern brick Meeting House. The 1888 building (with its many changes and additions) was moved to the Snow Camp Historical Society drama site, where the Sword of Peace is produced. It is still in use as office space for the drama.
