      Location - approximately 6 miles east of Graham off NC 54 at 2362 Brucewood Road (SR 2153), at the intersection of Brucewood Road (SR 2153) and Phillips Chapel Road (SR-2151).

      Phillips Chapel UMC is thought to have been organized prior to 1849 and was called "Methodist Episcopal, South" on the old deed to the property. Tradition asserts that graves were on the property prior to 1849. Most of the family names are those of original settlers in the community who emigrated from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Eastern North Carolina.
